Register now for the second edition of Apps For Ghent!
Written by iMinds on Thursday 15 March 2012
For this ‘Hackathon’ on March 24th, students and professionals build apps based on Ghent’s Open Data.
Open Data is an initiative placing freely accessible public data on the internet. In this way, authorities can broaden their transparency, free up market value and increase public participation.
The official presentation of the new data portal took place recently within this context. Thanks to our Open Source framework, "The DataTank", all data sets are now also available through a user-friendly API. This framework, where IBBT-Multimedia Lab, OKFNbe and iRail vzw participated in its development, brings Open Data to the developers in a simple way.
It makes data directly available in various formats, offers automatic documentation and makes this data usable on the Semantic Web. The built-in query language SPECTQL allows App developers to query and combine data sets in an easy way.
