IBBT: Research with impact

Written by admin on Friday 18 December 2009

Focusing our efforts to tackle challenging times ahead Dear Partner, First and foremost I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year on behalf of the IBBT team. This is the time of the year to reflect on both past and future. The first five years of our existence we have seen rapid growth and a proliferation of our activities. IBBT has matured into an established research organization in Flanders as illustrated by our partner network of over 300 companies and institutions. We are very pleased you are one of our partners. The recent financial crisis had led both government and industry to reduce investments in research & development, while the challenges ahead require an extensive effort. We are therefore in the middle of a reorganization to streamline our operations and reduce the overhead costs. Our goals for the future are to grow our international reputation, achieve worldwide excellence in a limited number of fields and increase the economic impact of our research even more. Read more...

Beyond Open Internet Slogans

Written by Pieter Ballon; Eric Van Heesvelde on Friday 18 February 2011

The battle of words between a number of Internet pioneers on the one hand (De Morgen 7/2) and Minister Van Quickenborne on the other (De Morgen 8/2) about the openness of the Internet makes us feel hopeful. It proves that the obstacles to the openness of fixed and mobile Internet that have been present for a long time have finally entered the public forum. Living labs: bridging marketing and research

Written by admin on Wednesday 29 April 2009

Taking the leap from `good ideaŽ to `successful productŽ is easy in theory. In practice, however, developing and bringing a product, service or application to market costs a lot of time and money. Through various institutions and funds, the government subsidizes the research of innovative ideas and the development of prototypes. Once a product is "market-ready", businesses take over and fund large-scale production. But what institution bridges the gap between the prototype and the ready-made product? Not many companies and research institutions are willing to finance that risk because, in that phase, the probability of failure is greatest. Read more...
