Benchmarking and experimentation for advanced media retrieval systems

Lifetime project: 1 January 2013 - 31 December 2013

The BEAMER project focuses on the research area of information retrieval, using machine learning techniques. The scope of BEAMER is the Flemish written press, although the methodology created in BEAMER will be extendible towards other forms of media content.

The overall aim is research on smart information extraction applications for newspaper content. Named entity disambiguation, sentiment analysis and topic detection were brought up as the most pertinent use cases by the industrial partners. A second element in the research track and an important component in the project is the creation of a representative corpus of reference data.
