Combell Provides Start-Ups that Participate in iMinds’ iStart Incubation Program with One Year of Free Hosting Services

Ghent – September 3, 2014. Combell – the Belgian market leader for shared hosting services – actively supports iMinds’ iStart incubation program. As part of its Cloud Angel Webfund, Combell foresees one million euro to provide start-ups – including the ones supported by iMinds – with free hosting services for the duration of one year.

Each year, iMinds – the digital research center of Flanders, Belgium – supports 20 to 25 promising start-ups on the way to their commercial breakthrough. Through iMinds’ iStart program, these start-ups not only benefit from financial aid, they also receive practical support; practical support that now also includes hosting services – thanks to a brand new collaboration agreement between iMinds and Combell, the Belgian market leader for shared hosting services.

iStart meets Cloud Angel Webfund

Combell, which once started off as a start-up too, actively supports the Benelux start-up scene through its Combell Cloud Angel Webfund. It is not an incubator or a venture capital fund, but a service through which Combell offers start-ups free hosting services for the duration of one year. Additionally, Combell will provide the iMinds start-ups with the necessary expertise and know-how for hosting best-practices, based on a number of workshops and networking opportunities.

"The collaboration with Combell perfectly fits the growth plans of our iStart incubation program," says Sven De Cleyn, incubation programs manager at iMinds. "iStart already has an excellent international reputation, as was recently shown by our selection as one of the top-25 University Business Incubators worldwide. But we’re obviously more ambitious than that; we want to give promising Flemish start-ups every possible opportunity to break through, and a strong iMinds partner network – which is joined by Combell today – is essential for that."

Reinforcing the iStart Offering

iMinds’ strategy to reinforce its iStart offering for start-ups and entrepreneurs already resulted in collaboration agreements with Microsoft (offering start-ups three years of free software through its BizSpark program) and Telenet (providing iMinds start-ups with one year of free connectivity).
